There is no need for big buildings or fancy offices in order to become the market leader of your own branch in Finland. A good example is Urheilulattiat-Indoors Oy, a company founded in the year 2005.
When there is a well functioning co-worker relationship, one becomes market leader with a total of only three workers. These three workers have plenty of experience though they are few; Managing Director. Mr. Jukka Holstila and Marketing Manager Mrs. Sari Arminen have been in the business for a long time. The youngest in team, Product Manager Mr. Matti Holstila also has years of experience in flooring industry. He has been working in Urheilulattiat-Indoors for a year.
The company works in Lempäälä centre by accessible and good traffic connections. Mr. Holstila says that the location is perfect as it is accessible from every direction.
The company has storage in Lahti which is taken care of a cowork company. Lempäälä office sends the order for a delivery and the cowork company in Lahti starts to process it. Mrs. Arminen says that the base for everything is to be familiar with all the products. In this case they count on their partner because the job is always easy and productive.

Wide variety of products
Urheilulattiat-Indoors Oy delivers inside carpets. They have a vast variety of products that includes wooden carpets, linoleum carpets, flexible plastic carpets, polyurethane mass carpets and rubber covered carpets. They have dozens of options for carpeting and the products come from Finland as well as from foreign producers. The clients are situated all over Finland.
Mr. Holstila estimates that app. 30% of the business comes from the capital area, another 30% from Turku, Tampere and Vaasa areas and the rest from all over Finland. In Tampere region they have delivered their carpets in ice halls in Lempäälä, Pirkkala, Kangasala, Nokia and Tampere.
Making business in this industry is normally a long process. Mrs. Arminen says that the job starts from architect’s desk. Many times the buying processes can take a long time and it might take up to three years for a deal to close – e.g. in public sector.
The competition situation seems good for now because the company has a wide variety of products in a limited sector. It is a clear benefit for them; even there are many competitive enterprises. Some of them have specialized e.g. for outside running tracks, which Urheilulattiat-Indoors doesn’t deliver at all. However, familiar names are mentioned as Mr. Holstila mentions some of the competitors. But neither one of them delivers inside flooring from flexible floors to wooden versions. Is this the reason that the recession hasn’t really affected their business and they are making same results as before?
Euro norms that were published in autumn 2006 have brought Urheilulattiat-Indoors more clients because they define the minimum requiries for e.g. children´s play fields. The challenging part is that e.g. school´s gym facilities have their own demands and the schools evenings use has another demand to it. This is quite a legal jungle. In these kinds of situations their professionality is being tested. However, they always find the perfect solution for their clients in order to get the right floor for right purposes.

Oxygen fill-up in spare time
All the three workers say they get rid of the stress doing outdoor activities.
Mr. Holstila says he relaxes in his cottage and snowmobiling. Also downhill skiing and cross country skiing are close to his heart.
The younger Mr. Holstila follows his father’s footsteps also in hobbies as he admits to relax on a snowmobile, too. The oxygen fill-up he gets from jogging and the feel to indoor carpeting he gets from the gym.
Mrs. Arminen likes to get rid of her stress outdoors and skiing. She skis in summer on a lake and in winter in ski centres.
It is nice to hear this motivated little group. With this professionality and energy they surely occupy one floor after another. As they have well demonstrated.
