Xortec

Mr. Joni-Pekka Kääriäinen and Mr. Seppo Koskensilta

In Sääksjärvi area, just beside the Helsinki-Tampere highway, there is a new, big and blue hall building. The people driving on the highway have probably seen a sign on the roof that says “Xortec”. In this sense the name is familiar for many, but what is there behind the name?

I asked for more details from the company´s CEO Mr. Seppo Koskensilta and Marketing Director Mr. Joni-Pekka Kääriäinen.

The two men told me that the company produces and designs electronics for mainly other companies. They also produce components for the clients’ own products. This flexible company can also answer the needs of bigger companies: Xortec produces e.g. products that have been licensed in Nokia Oyj Ltd. The majority of their clientele is situated in Southern Finland.

Xortec has been in Lempäälä for two years. Earlier they were situated in Hermia (Tampere) near Lempäälä border. When the old working facilities got too small they decided to search for new premises or a plot for their business. They couldn’t find anything in Tampere and decided to move to Lempäälä.

The location in the heart of Southern Finland has been excellent for their business. There are also good professional workers because of the many schools in the area, such as Tampere Adult Education Centre and the Technical University of Tampere.
From these schools they have also employed staff in Xortec.

The cooperation with the municipality has been good and they have a positive image of the municipality as everything has been going onwards smoothly, quickly and efficiently.

Bright future ahead

New facilities by the Helsinki-Tampere highway.

The company has about 30 employees. Majority of them work in production and less than 10 people in design. The administration issues are left for Mr. Koskensilta and Mr. Kääriäinen. The amount of the personnel has increased in the last couple of years for more than 10 persons.

Against all the odds in ongoing economics, the company´s future looks good and they are making good results. The first quarter of the year will be showing great results. The key to access is, according to Mr. Koskensilta and Mr. Kääriäinen, specialization. The company aims at providing services that nobody else provides. In Xortec they try to develop new kinds of businesses that provide good results to clients and to the company itself.

The competition situation is not too tight because there is only couple of companies in Tampere region with the same business idea. Xortec trusts on near markets even there are some extremely good potential clients in the capital area.

Renovation and culture

In order to create balance between home and work, Mr. Kääriäinen is renovating an old house where is still lots of things to do. Mr. Kääriäinen says that the house project is good therapy and enjoys making things with his hands.

Mr. Koskensilta on the other hand enjoys sports and culture. Especially movies, theatre and literature are near his heart. Even opera doesn’t scare him: the next weekend he will be going to opera. “I truly sympathize you”, says his colleague and both men burst into laughing.
