The morning’s traffic jam and the cold weather are soon forgotten as the widely smiling project manager, Mr. Hannu Paukkio, welcomed me to hear more about LukkoLuket Oy Ltd.
LukkoLuket Oy Ltd. was founded in 1997. It is a locksmith and security store, where they sell everything from locks and safety control systems to crime control systems.
70 % of the company´s clients are situated in Tampere region and the rest in the whole Pirkanmaa region. The majority of the company´s turnover comes from companies that require wider and more complicated security systems than private customers.
Both customer groups, companies and private clients, are considered very important.
Tight competition and optimistic plans for future
The competition in the business is tight, but the future looks good, even though the locksmiths compete nowadays also with the security guard companies.
Also Mr. Timo Lehtonen, who later on joined our company, is optimistic about the future.
Lehtonen is the man behind LukkoLuket and he has over 20 years of experience. He doesn’t care about the CEO´s title but prefers the title “locksmith”.
Lehtonen says that municipal institutes invest nowadays more in security systems. Electronic locking systems and automatic door systems (e.g. for disabled people) are also increasing.
Good post-marketing is important in the tightening competition. It’s crucial that the delivered goods´ maintenance operates well. This is well being cared of in LukkoLuket Oy Ltd.

Good personnel is the key to success
The company offers work for six people. It hasn’t been quite easy to find professional locksmiths even though there have been many applicants. One solution has been the apprenticeship contracts.
Not anybody can work as a locksmith, however. The police investigate the background of anyone who enters in the business. It means that we, the clients, can fully trust these professionals and their work.
The ongoing development in the business requires a lot from the personnel. On the other hand the work is challenging, interesting and every day is different from the other.
Business in Lempäälä
The men describe Lempäälä as a nice, adequately small business environment. The main market area, Tampere, is also near. In Lempäälä the leases are also significantly cheaper than in the city of Tampere.
Work and relaxation
When I ask how the men relax in their spare time, both start to laugh: “We relax when we don’t have to see each other!” In this working place the humour is a good weapon and it is fun to observe.
Mr. Paukkio says that the best ways to charge batteries are football and trips with family.
Next destination is going to be Egypt and the river Nile.
Mr. Lehtonen likes the handwork, renovating and repairing. There is also time for ice hockey. Politely Mr. Lehtonen answers to support “Rauman Lukko” instead of choosing one of the two regional ice hockey teams, “Tappara” and “Ilves”.
And the name of the company..?
The name LukkoLuket comes from the Lucky Luke –cartoon, the man who was faster than his shadow and always won the stealing Dalton brothers. So the Daltons of today have better watch out: these Lucky Lukes have all the security issues under control!
